The design blends two-toned blue zigzag and checkerboard patterns and warps them into a design that’s sure to polarize the club’s supporters. The Nike logo on the chest, stripes down the side of the shirt, and a “CFC” monogram on the back of the collar all appear in yellow.
According to Chelsea’s website, “the new home kit created by Nike is inspired by the designs from the OP Art movement – the dynamic blueprint represents energy and vibrancy, synonymous with the new wave that is propelling the club forwards.”
The zigzag-checkerboard print and yellow side stripes continue onto the shorts. The socks are white with yellow and blue trim.
Chelsea’s men’s team will wear the kits for the first time on Saturday, May 15, in the FA Cup final against Leicester City. The women’s team will wear them the next day in the UEFA Women’s Champions League final against Barcelona. The men may also wear them when they take on Manchester City in the men’s Champions League final, now being held in Porto, Portugal, on May 29.
