Boston’s Concepts have decided to ditch the idea of ‘tennis whites’ for their rendition of the popular Adidas Stan Smith Women. The colourway is a nod to Stan Smith’s win on the grass at Wimbledon back in 1972, one of only two Singles Grand Slam titles the iconic tennis player managed to win during his illustrious career.

Pharrell Williams and adidas Originals have emerged from the candy lab again with a fresh swag of sneaks and gear to cap off the year. Bright colours are the focal point again, just like the previous delivery, but instead of block-coloured fluro joints, Pharrell shows an affinity for polka dots this time, both big and small. A bunch of Adidas Stan Smith Men and track jackets are all splashed with circles contrasting against vibrant base colours.

The shoe keeps to the original; with the classic smooth grain leather atop the simple white rubber sole, but updates on the tongue logo and insoles that feature the popular cartoon character completes the tongue-in-cheek colab.

Opening Ceremony brings us the third chapter of their take on the classic Adidas Stan Smith US Sale silhouette, and it features a straight trippy almost three-dimensional diamond pattern with hands stretching through covers the shoe. An off-white rubber sole serves a nice contrast against the bonkers upper and grey premium full grain leather detailing on the heel and Opening Ceremony-branded tongue tab is a nice touch.

It’s hard to figure out who is having a bigger year, Pharrell Williams or adidas Originals, but given the two separate fields of music and footwear the comparison is a little difficult for a clear cut winner. Regardless, the resurgence of both the producer and the Three Stripes lifestyle brand seemed like a perfect pairing for a collaborative effort so they made it happen atop the Adidas Stan Smith Discount. First there was the adidas Consortium “Solid Pack” featuring three monochrome leather finishes and now the pair returns with a felt construction to match that of a tennis ball.
